Prologue: The Perfect Life : Part 2

Ian Maxwell in one word was rich. He belonged to the multi-billionaire family that was the pride of the rich and famous. His father, the senior Maxwell, had wanted him to join the business and take his chair, but Ian found his passion in being an actor. And he was immensely successful in his venture.

Ian was born and brought up in New York but had moved to California. The Maxwells sent Carlton with him; someone they could trust to take care of their son. The Maxwells still lived in NY. City His father still hoping that one day Ian would take his place, but he never forced Ian into anything, for anything.

Ian had a perfect childhood. He was thoroughly disciplined and worked hard at studies. All were the efforts of his Mom, to whom he remained very attached. He got all he wanted, though his demands were never unreasonable. He never asked for anything he did not really need. He would even save the pocket money he got to get what he wanted and avoided asking for more.

As he grew up, so did his interests! He loved to read, ride, and risk. Adventure was his life. The only ‘R’ that did not feature in his dictionary was Romance. Ian never got interested in girls. The only ladies in his life were his family, his dear mom, his lil’ sis, Dianne, he was over-protective about, and his grandmother.

While boys of his age were dating and romancing, he was reading, riding, or risking his life for the thrill of adventure. Something that his father loved in him, and his mother regretted. His friends, classmates, cousins, even his mother and sister were fed up of setting him up with a girl, at least one date! But Ian always managed to wriggle out. Best girls in the neighborhood and school longed to be his date, but he evaded them all. Always more interested in something else. He either forced or bribed Tyler one of his few friends to go instead or plain refused making a lame excuse. Girls apart, his was a perfect world!

His parents gave him a pleasing countenance and his athletic interests gave him a body to match. His looks were taken after his father: tall, well-built, handsome features with a gorgeous smile. But the twinkle of his eyes and the sweetness of his smile that lent softness to his face, were his mother’s gift to him.

She always said to him, “You may have the body of your father, but you have my soul!”

He simply loved his family.

While still in school, he disliked his sister dating boys. Ever protective about his lil one. She really had to impress him with the boy’s details before he let her go; or simply asked her to tell him its off, very often he’d do that too himself. If he found any boy actually talking to her, asking for a date he’d knock him off with a blow. Quite bossy, yes – but actually just scared to let her go! Despite protests from his mother to keep out of her date business at least, he behaved the same way – and it wasn’t all his fault, she was so tiny, so timid, so gullible, and, according to him, so stupid! Any guy could make her believe anything. Ian just wouldn’t trust anyone for his lil one.

But when he came across Kevin Raymond, he found the kind of guy he wanted for his sister. He decided it was him, irrespective of whether she would like him or not. He set up a date for them; fortunately, he’d been right, they just felt the same way. Kevin was a warm gentle fellow. Good looks, good family, studying law despite his family business. Yes, He was good for Dianne.

Ian completed his studies but all through school and college, he never went on a date.

Ian moved to California to try his hand at his passion. Instant hit with all the talent and charm – he became a rage in no time. He got so much work that he began to feel the need of someone’s help – not a secretary, but a manager. One evening getting home after a harsh day, he spotted Tyler – his old friend. Tyler Jordan was almost as tall as Ian and liked to build his body, but was lazy! He had a cute face that had a smile, whether happy, sarcastic, funny, weak, or embarrassed, permanently fixed on it. He loved to laugh and was an easy going person. Unlike Ian, he disapproved of risking his life for adventure or anything else. Ian was so rejoiced to see him again, invited him in and they filled in each other with their lives. Tyler was looking for a job and Ian needed a guy. All set. Ian wouldn’t hear a ‘No’. Tyler was given an office in the left wing and a room just above it, for his abode.

It was about a month after Tyler’s arrival that Ian got the shocking news that his father had been attacked and a business rival was suspected. While the matter was settled, a bodyguard was sent to Ian, against his wishes and despite his protests.

Adrian Hunter was a tough guy, tall and strong, dedicated to his duty of protecting Ian. He had long, straight black hair, that he loved to keep open, but his job made it necessary to tie them up. No amount of sending-him-away worked. Ian tried everything from sweet words n long lectures to showing him that he could take care of himself but Adrian stayed put. He was Ian’s father’s employee; Ian couldn’t even fire him. He was hired by senior Maxwell and followed his orders, also gave him any information he needed about his son’s activities.

Ian finally gave in.
