Chapter Seventeen
*

Isabelle walked to the door, her knees were shaking with fear. Again the knock sounded. Her trembling hand reached for lock and she clumsily released it, but she could not find the strength to turn the door knob.

Her hand clung to the door knob like a life preserver in the torrent raging waves of the sea. The knob began to turn, whoever was on the other side was taking the initative. That was ok with her cause she had not an ounce of strength left within her.

The knob moved in her hand and she released it and backed away. The door slowly opened and Isabelle was going to faint in a matter of seconds. Perhaps her pounding heart would give out and she would be out of her misery.

She backed into the living room and waited. The door was completely open now, and there in the threshold, stood Pik Van Cleaf. He looked at her once then closed the door behind him.

Isabelle could feel everything drain away. The fear, the despair, the sadness, the horrid pain. They all drained away within seconds of gazing into his dark eyes. They stood looking at each other for what seemed like an eternity.

        "You came back."

Her words were low and spoken with a hoarse tone.

"How could I not ?" His deep voice responded with that incredibly sexy accent. Isabelle found herself walking towards him. Perhaps it was a dream, if it was she would surely take her own life come morning. How Cruel ! She was standing before him now, looking up into that interestingly handsome face.

"Is it really you ?" She whispered and he replied by running his finger down her cheek and over her lips. The contact was like a bolt of lightning and Isabelle was mad for his touch.

Pik allowed his fingers to linger upon her chin and he pulled her closer as he lowered his mouth to hers. He drew her lips into his mouth and he had his answer,She would not refuse him.

He deepened the kiss with such desire and intensity that it even suprised him. Her trembling hands gripped his coat, and when he broke the kiss she peered up at him with pleading eyes. "Please, never leave me again !"

Pik was overcome with emotion and he smiled. He bent down and lifted her into his arms. "I know a way for you to forgive me." He began to walk towards the bedroom. Isabelle had forgiven him the moment that he had appeared, but she kept that to herself.

This man before her was everything she had ever wanted or dreamed a man should be and he was hers. For all eternity, and it had all begun with a chance enounter.
