Chapter Thirteen
*
Detective Jase Bailey winced at the nasty looking stitches upon his partner's forehead.
Erica was in a foul mood and he could not blame her. Jase looked across the room where
his dear Mary sat, still waiting her questioning. He felt terrible that he had to
interrogate her and she would cast him only looks of disbelief and hurt.
Indeed he felt badly, but it was his job. Perhaps after this was all over she would
forgive him and they could make a fresh start. Jase sipped the lukewarm coffee and
prepared himself to question Mary.
Erica held an ice pack to her head. "That Bastard is mine !"
She grumbled.
It was nearly twelve thirty and Mary was growing tired and she was still so worried
about Isabelle.
"Mary, lets make this quick so I can see you home." Jase seated himself beside her
with a pad of paper and a pencil in his hands.
"Yes, Lets get this over with." Her voice was laced with
pain at having been deceived.
It had only been an hour and it was obvious that Mary did not know the details of this
Man Isabelle had becomed involved with. He was relieved.
Jase handed her her sweater and led her from the office.
"You should have told me about Erica." Mary announced as they entered the elevator.
Jase slid his hand onto her shoulder. "I know." He was truly sorry but he was no closer
to solving these murders and no closer to finding out what had happened to Isabelle
Grant.
"Mary, Please you must understand it is my duty." Jase moved closer until his lips were
against her hair. Mary was
upset but the contact was comforting.
"Yes, I suppose so. But you better never let this happen again." Jase smiled slightly.
His hand ran down her back and remained at her waist.
"No, it will never happen again." She had in her own way forgiven him. "And Jase, please
find Isabelle."
The elevator had reached the garage level.
"Yes, I will find her." Jase said rather
confidently as he led Mary to his car.
Jase opened the car door for Mary but stopped her from entering. One hand lay against
her throat where he could feel the her pulse and the other held the back of her head.
He was going to kiss her and nothing was going to stop him.
He pressed his lips against hers until he could feel her lips parting to allow him access.
He so enjoyed kissing her and by her response he knew she felt the same. Mary slid her
hand to the back of his neck and pressed her lips harder and
she gasped in suprise as his tongue entered her mouth.
"Excuse me ! Am I interrupting something ?" Erica stood
a few feet away.
Jase broke the kiss and moved away.
"Did you forget that I also need a ride ?
I can't exactly drive myself with this concussion." Erica was angered
and the deep purple bruising was growing across her forehead.
"Get in."
Jase called over to her in a irritated voice.

Pik and Isabelle had sat beside each other in silence for a long time.
Isabelle fought back the pain but with him sitting beside her it was futile.
The tears once again began to flow and Pik pulled her against his chest.
Isabelle was not even thinking about the coming of Dawn, she was only concerned with this man.
Was this to be the end of the most intense relationship of her life ? How could she
live after experiencing what she had with him ?
Pik held her tightly and placed a kiss upon her forehead.
There could be no kind of life if he was not in it. Isabelle had to accept that
this was her fate, and so be it.
Pik sat there until she was asleep against him. He lifted her up onto the bed
and retied the ropes but not as tightly.
Pik felt a rage deep within him building and he did not know what the outcome would be.
Dawn would only tell.
