Chapter 2

"Bring an overnight bag, your weapons, and anything else you might need for a 2 night stay, along with $500,000.00 to the Wal-Mart parking lot tomorrow at 5 pm." She turned to lay her gun on the deck of the shooting stall, when she turned back, he was gone. Nothing, not a sound. Until she heard the engine on the Jeep start up and drive off.

She grabbed her guns and ran to the office. "Bob, did you see which way he went?" "Which way who went? I didn't see anyone. No one went by me. Casey, are you seeing things?" a very confused Bob asked.

Casey left the shooting range and went straight to her bank. She had been putting money into a safe deposit box for the last 2 years so that when this day came, she would be ready and there would be no questions asked as to why she was withdrawing such a large sum from her savings account. Putting the money into a duffle bag, she hurried from the bank and then to the ammo shop. It was only when she happened to glance into the mirror that she noticed that the black Jeep was following her, but she couldn't see who was driving it. Left them follow her, she thought. She had nothing to hide from them, at least not at this point.

With a quick trip through the drive thru at A&W, she turned down the highway to home and what she hoped was a restful night. She pulled into the driveway at her home, stopping only to open the gate, pull though and close the gate behind her. She waved at the black Jeep as it slowly drove past. She couldn't see the amused smirk that flashed across Pik's handsome face. Or the quick salute he afforded her.

Settling in for the night, Casey did not notice the lone figure standing in the grove of trees that ran along side her house. But the man watching noticed every move she made. The windows had no blinds or curtains to block his view, a view shared by no one as the house sat back in the woods. When she came out of the shower and dropped her towel, Casey stretched giving Pik a view he would not forget anytime soon.

Casey awoke at her usual 6:30 am and drug herself out of bed. She wandered to the kitchen to pour a cup of coffee. It was then that she noticed that the coffee was already made. She hadn't remembered fixing it last night. A feeling of unrest came across her. She turned and noticed nothing else out of place. But she knew he had been in her house while she slept.

Pik had returned to the mansion by 6 am. Fouchon was already at the breakfast table drinking his coffee and waiting for the report the Pik would have.

"Did you meet her?" Fouchon asked. "Yes" came the reply. "She is just what the report said, except she is very attractive." Fouchon's brow creased as he asked, "Is that going to be a problem?" "Not for me" Pik calmly stated. Even though his thoughts were in turmoil. What if the quarry shoots her? Will she be able to pull the trigger when the target is in sight? Had Pik been able to read Casey's mind, he would know the answers to these questions and he would be in more turmoil.

As the set time approached, Casey put her weapons, the duffle bag and her overnight bag into her truck and headed to the Wal-Mart parking lot for the meeting.

She pulled into the far quadrant of the parking lot and waited. She didn't have to wait long. The black Jeep pulled up beside her with in minutes. She knew that he had been parked where he could see her pull in. Pik got out of the passenger side of the Jeep and came around to the passenger side of her truck. He quickly opened the door and jumped in. "Nice truck" was he only comment. "Shall we go? " he asked. " Just follow the Jeep," he quickly added. The fact that he was sitting just inches away made Casey suddenly uncomfortable. He was her enemy, but she wanted him. Pik was having thoughts of his own about Casey. And they left him a little shaken.

Casey followed the Jeep for about an hour before entering a set of non-descript gates and following the long winding drive to a very huge house. Before she had put the truck into park, Pik was out the door and had grabbed her bags from the back seat of the truck. He handed her the duffle bag with the money in it and said, "Here I thought you'd want to carry this". Casey could not help but smile at the manner in which he so casually handled $500,000.00. They entered the huge house where another man was standing obviously waiting for them. Pik walked up to the man and turned to make the introductions " Casey, may I introduce Fouchon" "Welcome Casey" Fouchon said. Just looking at him reminded Casey of a cobra waiting to strike. She extended her hand and just said "Thank you". Fouchon just turned and simply stated "Pik will show you to your room for your stay. When you are settled, he will show you the volunteers for your hunt. You are to pick one and we will arrange it from there. Any questions?" Casey looked at Pik who just shrugged his shoulders as he started up the wide staircase.

Casey had no choice but to follow him. He stopped at a door and opened it. Inside was the most beautiful bedroom Casey had every seen. Mahogany furniture that was obviously very old and very expensive filled the room. The carpet was a deep hunter green and the walls were painted an Indian red above Mahogany panels. But what caught her eyes and held them was the magnificent four-poster canopy bed. It was huge. Unconsciously Casey licked her lip, her thoughts were running to what it would be like to make love to the man standing next to her in that bed. Pik watched her intently, wondering what thought changed her expression from one of lust to one of despair.

"When you get settled, I'm meet you in the parlor downstairs. It's the first door on the right at the bottom". With that said, Pik turned and headed back down the stairs and into the music room where Fouchon was playing his beloved piano. "Well, what do you think?" Pik asked Fouchon, aware that Fouchon was not in a good mood to start with. "She has the money?" "Yes" "Then the hunt will go one as scheduled." "Fine, I'll get the volunteer she selects lined up for tomorrow night" "Oh, and Pik," Fouchon added, " I have an uneasy feeling about the woman. Watch her carefully."

With that said, Fouchon did not see the hint of a smile on Pik's dark features as he turned to join Casey in the parlor. Yes, Pik thought, he had planned on keeping a very close eye on Casey, without being told to do so.

Casey was already in the parlor when Pik entered the room. This gave the man a few seconds to study her before she was aware he was there. There was something about her that affected him. It had been years since any woman had had that effect on him and Pik was enjoying the feeling.

Pik handed Casey three manila folders, each with the picture of a man and his brief military history. On the third folder was a picture of a man that had haunted Casey for 5 years, man that had beaten her almost to death, her ex-husband. Seeing her reaction to the picture, Pik asked her if she was ok and was there a problem. Casey looked at Pik and asked him, "Do you know who this man is?" Pik took the folder and examined the contents. It said nothing that would lead him to know what the connection between the man and Casey was. Nothing in her file mentioned this man.

Pik responded, "No, I don't, but it's obvious that you do." "He beat me once and almost killed me, he's my ex-husband," Casey responded flatly. The muscle in Pik's jaw started to twitch. He hated abusive men and now he hated this man especially for laying a hand on Casey. "So what do you want to do, Casey? The choice is yours." Pik casually said. "You promise that there will be no way this can be traced back to me? My choice of weapons? Wasn't that the contract? ´ Casey asked, staring directly into Pik's dark eyes. "Yes, that's the deal" "Fine, I want to hunt him!" Casey almost spat out. Pik had never seen such vengeance in a woman before, but it made him respect her all that much more. "Fine, consider him your target. And Casey, I won't tell him who is going to be hunting him. I'll let you surprise him." Pik said with a very smug smirk.

Pik told Casey that dinner would be served in about 15 minutes and to follow her into the music room. Casey, still shaken by the turn of events, got up to follow when Pik suddenly stopped and whispered, "Don't mention that he is your ex-husband to Fouchon. Take a deep breathe and get yourself together." Casey looked up into Pik's dark eyes; she was not sure what she was seeing there, compassion, concern, or lust that matched what she was feeling.
